Hi, all! We're trying something new for a while - Feature Friday!  It's a chance to feature New Adult authors on Friday, leaving our normal posts for NA content.

Our first author to be featured is: Magan Vernon and her book, My Paper Heart!

My Paper Heart:

There are worse things in life than failing out of college- such as having your parents receive the letter that you’ve been kicked out.

Now to appease her parents self-proclaimed sorority princess Libby Gentry is packing up her Prada bag and heading to work for her great aunt’s antique store in tiny Elsbury, Louisiana. She’s pretty sure she can tackle the swamp and deal with her great aunt and tom boy of a little cousin, but what she doesn’t know is if she can handle the local town playboy, Blaine Crabtree.

As Libby's feelings for Blaine grow, so does her need for acceptance and all of the insecurities she has kept inside are coming out. She may have survived the Louisiana swamp, but she may not survive Blaine's reluctance to say the 'L' word. When Blaine finally commits to the three words Libby’s been waiting for, she only hopes they haven’t come too late.

Describe your main characters:Libby is a geek-to glam sororitiy princess from the Chicago suburbs. She ended up failing out of her first year of college and was sent to live with her great aunt in rural Louisiana. On the outside she looks like she has it all, but deep down her insecurites are thicker than any swamp grass.
In comes Blaine Crabtree, the local town playboy with a heart of gold and as Carrie Underwood would say, "a snake with blue eyes." He comes off as gruff with his insistance on telling Libby what she can and can't do, but deep down the boy is just like a puppy with more insecurities than anyone.

What was your favorite scene in My Paper Heart?
SEX...um...what?

Okay, besides that... the scene that started this whole book was one in which Libby is dancing at a party, embarasses her little cousin and first meets Blaine. It's a scene I can just picture so vividly that no matter how much I kept shelving this book, it kept popping up.

What was the hardest part of My Paper Heart for you to write?
The scenes with Libby and her sorority sisters. I was in a sorority in college and it was some of the best times and the darkest times of my life. To relive some of those memories was hard, but there were certain things that I knew I had to face to make this novel possible.

What compelled you to write My Paper Heart?
I actually received the letter that I would be kicked out of college if I didn't get my grades up. Most books were about kids struggling through high school and friendships, but no book really showed what it was like to struggle with that first year of college. The only thing I had to go on was someone receiving the letter that they had been kicked out. A year later I had a dream with the 'dance sequence' and the story molded from there.

Now, about Magan in a few words:

I started my writing career with Olympic fan fiction in early 2000. Now I write young adult and New adult fiction that continue to top the Ebook charts. When not writing I tackle a day job in insurance, a young daughter, and a husband who coincidentally has the same birth date as the Olympic speed skater I used to write fan fiction for.

What’s your favorite New Adult title? The Jessica Darling Series- Slopping Firsts, Second Helpings, etc.

Why do you write New Adult?Because New Adult can go places that young adult can only dream about. New Adult isn't about the first kiss, it's about going beyond that first kiss, first love, and about finding yourself.

What books is sitting on your TBR pile that you can’t wait to read?Oh gee, my TBR pile is LONG, but probably Beautiful Disaster by Jamie Mcguire

If you could have dinner with any author, dead or alive, who would it be and why?Jodi Piccoult. Her writing is hauntingly beautiful.

Your favorite quote from any book.Little spoiler, it's from How to Marry an Alien (upcoming January 2013) "The best things in life are always worth fighting for."

What’s up next?I have an adult novella titled "Sign your Ex on the line." coming out under a pen name in November, How to Marry an Alien comes out in January and then some other surprises :)
